A new analysis from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) reveals that AI will 'reshape' between 50% and 55% of US jobs over the next three years, with 10% to 15% potentially replaced over five years. BCG Managing Director and Senior Partner Matthew Kropp explained: 'What people do in these jobs will be different, even if the job is still there.' BCG examined tasks associated with 1,500 jobs using government labor data. Call center jobs are expected to be significantly reduced as AI lowers costs without proportionally increasing demand, while software engineering demand is projected to grow as costs decrease. Occupations requiring physical presence or interpersonal skills, such as plumbers or therapists, are unlikely to feel much impact. Kropp urged business leaders to focus on reskilling rather than knee-jerk layoffs, noting that AI will also spawn new kinds of jobs, though it remains unclear what those could entail.
