AI company Anthropic has filed documents with the Federal Election Commission to establish a political action committee called 'AnthroPAC.' The PAC will be funded by voluntary employee contributions capped at $5,000 per person per year. AnthroPAC plans to make contributions to both parties during the midterms, including to current D.C. lawmakers and rising political candidates. The filing was signed by Allison Rossi, Anthropic's treasurer. AI companies have increasingly sought to influence policy, with the Washington Post reporting that AI firms have already contributed $185 million to midterm races. Anthropic previously donated $20 million to Public First, a Super PAC supporting a regulatory agenda. This move comes as Anthropic remains embroiled in a legal battle with the Defense Department over the government's use of AI models. The Trump administration has appealed a ruling that blocked Pentagon action against Anthropic, making AI policy a central issue in the 2026 midterms.
